Port Olímpic and KBr Fundación MAPFRE to host two new Conservatori Liceu concerts this october as part of the KBr Live series

The concerts, taking place at Moll de Gregal in Port Olímpic and performed by students from the Conservatori Liceu, will be free to attend on 19 and 26 October at 12:30 p.m.

This Sunday, 19 October at 12:30 p.m., Port Olímpic will host a new concert within the KBr Live series, a cultural programme promoted by BSM, Fundación MAPFRE, and the Barcelona Institute of Culture (ICUB). The initiative aims to bring photography and the performing arts closer to the public through events held at the newly revitalised Port Olímpic.

The concert, which is free of charge and will take place at the Moll de Gregal, is inspired by the current exhibition at the KBr Fundación MAPFRE photography centre, dedicated to Helen Levitt, one of the leading figures in twentieth-century urban photography. The musical performance will revolve around jazz, the quintessential American genre that, much like Levitt’s work, transforms everyday life into art with reimagined popular melodies that capture the atmosphere of New York’s streets so vividly portrayed in her photographs.

The performance will feature a quartet of Conservatori Liceu students: Xavi Maldonado (tenor saxophone), Rodrigo Lauroba (tenor saxophone), Mateu Teixidó (double bass), and Miguel Robles (drums). Together, they will present a selection of classic jazz standards inspired by Levitt’s artistic universe.

To coincide with the concerts, and as an extension of the Helen Levitt exhibition currently on show at KBr Fundación MAPFRE, visitors will also be able to enjoy an outdoor photography display on Moll de Mestral. This open-air exhibition, which is free to the public, forms part of a collaboration between BSM, Fundación MAPFRE, and ICUB to bring photography into public spaces and establish Port Olímpic as a new cultural hub for the city.

In addition to this Sunday's concert, the KBr Live series will also feature a second concert on Sunday 26 October at the same time, and continues to offer its regular family activities every Saturday morning. These sessions combine visits to the centre’s exhibitions with outdoor workshops that introduce children and families to the basics of photographic language in a fun and engaging way. The activities, aimed at families with children aged 7 to 12, run every Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and are free with prior booking.
