The blue economy, a strategic sector
The blue economy encompasses all activities linked to aquatic spaces that make economic and social development compatible with the conservation of marine ecosystems.
Barcelona promotes and supports the blue sectors as a new economic hub for the city. This activity ensures that economic and social development goes hand in hand with the preservation of marine ecosystems.
Port Olímpic is focusing on specialization in four major sectors, all sharing the common denominator of applying environmental responsibility criteria in their activities.
Activity Sectors
Port Olímpic is focusing on specializing in four major sectors, all sharing the common denominator of applying environmental responsibility criteria in their activities.
- Companies offering products and services related to nautical and recreational activities, preferably sustainable and environmentally friendly.
- Businesses that develop and offer educational activities and marine outreach programs to promote sports and boating while raising public awareness about the natural environment of Port Olímpic and the importance of conserving and preserving local ecosystems.
- Companies promoting the organization of events, activities, and programs related to Port Olímpic's activities or the city's history and its relationship with the sea, aiming to consolidate Port Olímpic as a space for the city and maritime culture.
- Companies offering a range of products and services related to the practice, maintenance, construction, buying and selling, and naval design. Priority will be given to businesses that promote the improvement of boat sustainability to ensure zero impact on the sea.
- Companies promoting a transformation of current nautical activities through products and services that mitigate the impact on seas and oceans, facilitating the conservation of aquatic ecosystems.
- Companies, entrepreneurs, startups, entities, research, and technological centers applying innovation to create sustainable and smart services and products in areas such as port activities, transportation and logistics, naval construction and maintenance, fishing, bioeconomy, blue biotechnology, water treatment, marine renewable energies, the nautical and sports sector, etc.
- Businesses fostering the creation of collaboration agreements with the business, research, and innovation sectors (universities, technological institutes, etc.) with the aim of driving innovation and technology.
- Producers and/or marketers of products and services that promote the conservation and regeneration of the marine ecosystem, targeting both the general public and the business sector.
- Companies involved in the production and/or sale of products with a significant component of recycled or marine-origin materials and/or organic products respectful of the marine ecosystem, aiming to prevent waste from reaching the seas and oceans or their disposal.
- Companies promoting the reduction, recycling, and reuse of materials and products, thereby avoiding waste generation and its impact on the marine environment.
A functional and sustainable workspaceThe blue economy hub at Port Olímpic is comprised of versatile and functional workspaces. Utilizing natural light and maintaining constant interaction with port activities are the cornerstones of the architectural design of the space. Additionally, the workspaces incorporate various measures for energy saving and efficiency, contributing to one of Port Olímpic's main goals, which is to become a benchmark in environmental management. Users will also have access to the ample public use spaces that will be available at Port Olímpic. |
