The Port Olímpic has been recognized in the first edition of the Sustainable Boating Awards in the category of Sustainable Ports. The awards, organized by the National Association of Electric Boats (ANBE) and that have been delivered this Wednesday in Malaga, put in value the approach of the transformation project of the Port Olímpic, which places the environmental criteria at the center of all actions.

The ANBE award highlights the positioning of the Port Olímpic as a marina within the state with leading projects in areas such as the implementation of solutions for electric boat charging, decarbonization, digitalization and photovoltaic self-consumption, among others.

Since the beginning of its transformation process, led by Barcelona de Servicios Municipales (BSM), the Port Olímpic has advanced in the configuration of a new citizen space that makes the blue economy, nautical, gastronomy and the sea the center of its activity, and that has environmental action and sustainability criteria as transversal axes of these pillars.

A Port Olímpic benchmark in sustainability

One of the emblematic projects of the Port Olímpic is the installation of a large photovoltaic pergola covering the new Balcó Gastronòmic, located in the Moll de Gregal. The 1,500 panels occupy an area of 3,560 m2 and contribute to the generation of clean energy to supply the Port Olímpic itself and other BSM facilities located within a radius of up to two kilometers, such as the Barcelona Zoo, the Poblenou Cemetery and nearby parking lots. With this action, the Port Olímpic will lead one of the first shared self-consumption and zero kilometer urban initiatives in Barcelona.

The energy generated in the photovoltaic pergola feeds another of the Port Olímpic's strategic initiatives, such as the installation of two ultra-fast charging points of the Endolla network for electric boats. With this action, the Port Olímpic advances in its goal of promoting the energy transition in the nautical and maritime mobility and anticipates the needs of a growing sector.

Other actions that have contributed to the Port Olímpic's recognition by the ANBE are the application of circular strategies such as the construction of a groundwater network to save on drinking water consumption, the eco-design used in the choice of construction materials -with a recycling percentage of between 80% and 100%- or the use of seawater for cooling air conditioning and ventilation systems.

The Port Olímpic also promotes the recovery of its nearby coastline. In this case, with the installation of 50 biotopes and 23 gabions located on the seabed and in the water sheet of the port to encourage the proliferation of marine fauna and flora typical of the area. This project is linked to actions to visualize the process of biodiversity recovery and contribute to raising society's awareness of the protection of the sea and the species that inhabit it.
